Baptism is a symbolic gesture which I believe was encouraged by Jesus, both by example (Luke 3:21) and by ordinance (Matt. 28:19). I agree that it is no prerequisite for getting to Heaven and it has no bearing on your salvation. I also feel that it is something you must be led to do by the Spirit, otherwise you're just getting wet! As for the ceremonial aspect, I think I will follow the words of Jesus himslef, who said for us to baptize in the name of the trinity of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I don't necessarily think the other is improper, just not a point to base your faith on. I've been told that if I weren't baptized in the name of Jesus only I was lost and bound for Hell.
